My greatest Brummie is JRR Tolkien for inventing the fantasy literature genre with The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings….Birmingham ought to have a statue of Tolkien as well as a flower in my opinion…….

Charity launches poll to remember city’s greatest icons

Birmingham St Mary’s is launching an online poll to find the Greatest Brummie – so that they can be honoured in a unique art installation which celebrates the lives of loved ones.

Taking place throughout March, the Selly Park-based hospice is asking local people to vote for their favourite Birmingham icon who is sadly no longer with us but left a lasting legacy to the city.

The winning Brummie will then have a handcrafted wrought-iron flower planted in a beautiful art installation in the heart of Brindleyplace – which will form part of the hospice’s annual Forget Me Not appeal.
